What Is Leadership?

 What Is Leadership?

Leaders are people who do the right thing; managers are people who do things right.

– Professor Warren G. Bennis

Leadership is the art of getting someone else to do something you want done because he wants to do it.

– Dwight D. Eisenhower

So, what is Leadership?

An effective leader is :

Creating an inspiring vision.
In business, a vision is a realistic and attractive picture of the future. A leader must be able to make the vision attractive and convincing, so that it is easily seen, felt, understood, and embraced by others. Effective leaders provide a rich picture of what the future will look like once their vision is realized.

Motivate and inspire people.
A leader must have the ability to motivate and inspire people to realize that vision. Effective leaders must be able to link expectations, including the hope that hard work produces good results and the hope that good results lead to attractive rewards or incentives. This will motivate people to work hard to achieve success, because they hope to enjoy rewards, both intrinsic and extrinsic. Leaders also have the charisma and natural appeal to motivate, influence, and inspire others.

Manage and deliver the vision.
A leader must ensure that their vision is successfully conveyed and well managed, either by themselves, or by a dedicated manager or team of managers to whom the leader delegates this responsibility.

Coaches and build a team.
In team building, A leader must first understand the dynamics of the team, and ensure that team members have the necessary skills and abilities to do their job in achieving the vision. Generally, they do this by giving and receiving feedback on a regular basis, and by coaching and coaching people to improve both individual and team performance.
